When births exceed deaths over time, population can grow, particularly when more people survive to reproductive age. Education, improved health services and voluntary family planning can help individuals plan if and when they want children. The NCERT chapter discusses the need for contraceptive access in the context of population growth, but reproductive rights and individual choice remain important.

For a simple model without migration, net change equals births minus deaths. If 120 births and 70 deaths occur during a model interval, the change is 50 people; this arithmetic is not a fertility rate or prediction. Real populations additionally involve migration and age structure. Do not treat a fall in infant mortality as harmful: public-health success may temporarily contribute to population growth.

Worked example: In a model with 120 births, 70 deaths and no migration, population rises by 50.

NCERT trap: A simple births-minus-deaths model omits migration and cannot predict all real trends.

NEET method: Write the assumptions first, then compute net change or choose voluntary planning measures.
